Windows Vista Malicious software removal tool

Have just had to do a re-install of vista....    and I am now presented with 54 "important" updates..... the last one is Malicious Software Removal tool at 9.9mb.
When I select the title, it gives an explanation of what it is, and how it works.... fine !.... and then says
"a new version will be offered every month"
so does that mean the Microsoft will be filling up my hard drive with a new version of that program at 10mb per month.... ?  (120 mb per year)..... and if so, can I "easily remember to dislodge the first version, and subsequent "new versions" every month?
or would it be better to not install it as I do have my own Anti Virus, and Malware software already installed.
( the description also says "This tool is not a replacement for Antivirus software, To help protect your computer , you should use an anti virus product"..)
(seems to me to be a bit of "overkill" )

the following are listed...
Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 service pack 2 security update for Windows Vista service pack 2 and.....
Microsoft .Net framework 3.5 Swerive pack 1 and .NET framework 3.5 Family update(KB951847)
Microsoft .NET framwork 3.5 SP1 Windows Vista SP2, Security update (kb979910)
Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 SP1 Windows Vista SP2 update (KB982536)
Are all these "new stuff" or is anyone of them a "cumulative" (service pack type ) file, so I can "do away with"  the others?

The MSRT is updated every month to reflect new threats; it looks for well-hidden stuff like rootkits etc. that conventional AV products tend not to find. It does a scan of your system when installed.
You should install all those updates ASAP to improve stability and reduce security risks.

Yes, I understand that bit about security.... but you did not answer the bit about 10mb per month additional ms software... or is it?

I don't  think there's anything to worry about shutter, I believe that the latest updates to the malicious tool overwrites the previous version. i.e. last months. And therefore does not clog up your harddrive.

in your window folder you will find a lot of folders like this  $NtUninstallKB960715$, sort in date order and delete all those over about a year old

They are there so you can delete the M$S updates

No I didn't because I don't know the answer and it's unimportant anyway.
Chances are it keeps every version (MS are like that), but if you've got a Vista system it will have a sizeable hard disk and 10MB per month is absolute chicken-feed compared to other updates. After 10 years it "might" be a whole Gigabyte, but will you still have that system in 2020?

well I took my own word for it deleted the 2008 ones and saved 200M

IIRC its 10meg for the first one (app and definitions)
then subsequent ones are only a couple of hundred KB (for definitions) unless they do an app upgrade.
besides, whats 120mb these days, you get memory sticks easily 8x that size.

Will get on with the updates..... and do as Pierre suggested, run the "uninstall" versions as listed....

Actually you can buy a 16 GB USB flash drive for somewhere between £20 and £30.  That's around £1.50 per GB or 1.5p for 10 MB of data storage.
Or you can pick up a Terabyte hard drive for £50 if you shop around.  That's 5p per GB!

yes but not the recent ones just in case you want them, they delete the updates that you have downloaded
if you look up the K number that is the reference to the various updates
