Windows POWERUP - login automation / bypass

Hi readers,
this can work in Windows 7 //vista

Click the Start button
  select/click 'Run'
    type or copy/paste this command:
      control userpasswords2
  [User accounts control windows appears,]
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" BOX.
 
>>PC  should now go straight to desktop from resume/powerUp!
. without user/password pause/delay
{ if UAC - User Account Control keeps warning and bothering, consider change it to a less intrusive level soon }
Caveats: single user  PC recommended, if multiuser, last login resumes.
for Win XP wishing to autologin:

This is a big security hole, only for those
whose pc is secure/or no sensitive stuff.
May affect intrusion/network access (I don't believe so but someone may know otherwise)

Hi newthing,
I use the auto-logon as described in the MS KB on a couple of XP boxes which need to run 24x7.  If there's a power failure, I've set the bios to start the PC on power-on and autologin to log the PC in.
I don't see it as a security issue as the PC keyboard/screen/mouse is physically secure and once logged in the electronic security is as good as it would be if I'd had to type the password.
The only downside if someone does get access is that the password is stored unencrypted in the registry.

This isn't affected by using auto-login though - anybody who has physical access to a machine can retrieve all locally stored passwords and then log on - password protection on a Windows machine is essentially non-existent.
