Windows Automatic Upgrade

Error message 800800005 whenever Windows automatically tries to update.  I believe it has something to do with the Registry and not being able to open some .com sites.  Without altering the Registry does anyone know about a patch or how to sort this out. My operating systme unfortunately is Vista!

Re: Windows Automatic Upgrade

Is this error occurring when you go to the Windows Update option or just appearing from nowhere.

Re: Windows Automatic Upgrade

Googling the error number brought up a wealth of results, it seems that installing Vista Service Pack 1 should solve this issue. I realise you can't download and install it through windows update because it's not working, with that in mind here's a link to the installer redistributable:

It's a big download though (~450MB) so may take some time, but once it's downloaded run it and then reboot the machine. That should sort it.
If you've already got Service pack 1 installed then my apologies, this was the first solution that I came across - but it was also the last post on the forum thread so it definitely solved that particular instance.

Re: Windows Automatic Upgrade

I looked for the error on the MS Knowledgebase and came up with nothing.
So if installing SP1 doesn't work you'll need to try and contac Microsoft
