Looks like the mobile phone screen setup is catching (see Ubuntu 11.04's Unitiy for an example  :() 
Why do they think we all have touchscreen displays? 
Not that I am likely to buy this (or even  download a "copy")
How many of you will be upgrading?

Well I wont be upgrading, I use windows 7 but very rarely now, I use Ubuntu 11.04 at the mo, I like unity but that’s a different subject, Not giving another penny to M$.

Based on what I've seen, not for a long while, if ever.
I've got it running on a test system (32-bit) and am installing the 64-bit version later on another system.
It's very strange indeed, but then it is effectively pre-Beta and just for developers so full of holes.
What I've seen so far is really just Windows 7 with a bit of a makeover via a bolted-on "tiled" front-end. 
(It's version 6.2 whereas W7 was 6.1 and Vista 6.0)

Just two years after W7 - no chance.
I liked XP (who wouldn't after attempting ME) having used 2000. I skppied Vista and am now happy with W7. It does all I need, for now, and can't see any reason to upgrade.
I'm not interested in a tiuch screen which seems to be a very large selling point for W8.
Out of interest, why was W7 so called?
By my calculations there were more than 6 previous versions including W1,2 & 3, NT, 95, 98, ME, 2000 XP, & Vista.

Jim you don't need to use It as a touch screen. It comes with two GUI.

Well at this stage, not exactly. You can't avoid the "Metro" interface totally as it sits above everything and many functions now seem to only be in it.
Hopefully this will all be tidied up before release, remembering this is a long way from a finished product.
For example I would expect an option, possibly present during installation as well, to use/switch to/from the W7 style.
Without that capability upgrading a system with mouse & keyboard would seem to be pretty pointless.

Indeed, the so-called "Windows Defender" seems to be a fully-fledged anti-Malware system in W8.
And I've found a little utility someone has already written to "flip" between the Metro and Windows styles of Start menus.
(it's a single-bit registry change)
For what I want to do with W8 the Metro stuff mostly just gets in the way, so I'll now just turn it on when I need it.

Just more mobile based thinking  (on a mobile most apps stay running in the background)
So we have a mobile with a 17+" screen and 4Gb+ of ram  (Oh and you can't carry it around)

No way would I consider upgrading, have now switched to Linux for 90% of the time and 100% for all online work.
On the few occasions I use windows 7 it gets accessed through a dual boot system.
The main reason for Windows 7 is to run Photoshop CS5 which used ACR 6.2  Gimp is available in Linux but when it comes to using RAW files in ACR Gimp has nothing to match it.
