Windows 8.1

Was released yesterday (17 Oct) to the public.
From what I have read so far, this appears to be around a 3gb update?!

Re: Windows 8.1

I know, they should be fine.
It starts installing, then gets towards finishing then gives an error code:
0x80070005 - 0x4000D
Then restores to previous settings.
I haven't looked into it to much, just tried with McAafe disabled.
They both have loads of memory by the way.

Re: Windows 8.1

Indeed, I've got an old HP Pavilion with a Pentium-D processor and that's happily running 8.1.

0x80070005 - 0x4000D this is the problem MS have pulled the update for
may just need a new disk when they have fixed the problem

I think that's wrong.  As far as I can ascertain, Microsoft pulled the update for Windows RT 8.1 because it can result in a Blue Screen of Death http://kickthatcomputer.wordpress.com/2013/10/19/windows-rt-8-1-upgrade-fails-with-boot-configuratio... .  To quote Wikipedia:
Quote
Windows RT is a variant of the Windows 8 operating system designed for mobile devices which use ARM architecture.

So that particular BSOD issue won't affect either of Devonian's computers.

Re: Windows 8.1

It seems Devonian's problem might arise if he changed his user profile since installing Windows 8.0
