Windows 8.1 Update Problem

I have discovered that my laptop is not updating. I was hoping that a system restore might sort it for me. Where is system restore on W8.1?
Any advice please in simple terms - not too PC literate  Wink

Control Panel, Recovery but it may not be the right answer to the problem....

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

Thanks Jim and HPSauce.  I'll have a go at it this afternoon.
I was waiting for the 'big' update to 8.1 from MS but reports here in the US say we will be disappointed as it is only changing some minor issues. So far I'm not pleased with it.

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

While our W8 PC (mainly used by SWMBO) does now have 8.1 it didn't change much.
However it also has Classic Shell on it so any changes are largely irrelevant to normal use.
Microsoft I think have a "Fixit" for Windows Update issues.

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

You will find you can turn off the computer more easily with Windows 8.1 (assuming you have not installed a Start Button replacement like Classic Shell).

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

You should find 'Windows 8.1 Update 1' is now available as a very large download.  It makes 8.1 a bit more friendly for conventional computer users.

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

Thanks for the info. Is the update the one showing as: Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based systems (KB2919353) ?
It's the only one I can see at present waiting to be installed.

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

Thanks Mal. When I checked again that was the one waiting to be downloaded - I must have typed the wrong number Embarrassed
I've now updated. I can see a few minor changes but nothing major. Is there a list somewhere of the changes?

Re: Windows 8.1 Update Problem

I like this change:
Quote
our mouse works more consistently anywhere in Windows. Move your mouse to the top of the screen to see Close and Minimize buttons in any app. Move your mouse down to the bottom of the screen to see the taskbar from anywhere in Windows.

But there is some way to go yet for non-tablet users.
