Windows 7 printer and scanner problems

Is it worth splitting out this really interesting discussion about running Windows as a VM under Linux and moving it to the Linux forum - or should I just leave well alone

Solution
I have decided to dual boot with linux as XSANE gives me full control over my scanner.
