Windows 7 on CD/DVD

I would like to get a legal copy of WIndows7 on CD/DVD but don`t know how/where to go.  32 bit for pref, or if available 32 & 64 on same CD
Also would like to know if current, and some older progs I have running on my 32bit Dell Inspiron Window Vista Home Premium will run on a 64 bit machine with Win 7 or Win10 ?
Info please.... contact me via PM if necessary !.

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

There's always ebay!!! They are usually 64 or 32bit, not both, but you can get a "for a refurbished PC" 64-bit home premium disk that will run 32bit software  Wink Running older software is somewhat hit-n-miss, I find, though setting a compatibility mode for it may make it work.

You could always phone a few high street computer shops if there are any near you, they might have some lying around.

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

Thanks for your input "PitchBlack".... much appreciated.... I have emailed one local shop... they are fairly "pricey" on their second hand laptops, so did not fancy going in and getting embarassed ! ..
Trouble is with Ebay, and other "on line" suppliers, where they take your money, and you don`t know if you are getting a "genuine" copy or a rip-off .... especially the download this .iso file and we will send you a key for it when you pay up.... ...
I`m wanting to get a more modern laptop, with a fairly fast processor, but don`t want win 8 or 8.1 or 10 on it... so thinking along the lines of getting one with the basic stuff on it and no O.S.

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

you could try your local supplier - Novatech - who will provide Win 7 pro but it adds about £120 to the cost

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

Yes, indeedy, Jim.... I have already been there, and their stuff is a bit too pricey for what I want.... and to add another £100 -£120 makes it even more so....
Have used them for HDD`s in the past, and they are a bit "tricky" if something goes wrong.... i.e  I bought a HDD one Saturday morning, and spent the next 16 hours trying to load up Windows on it.... just would not load... kept blocking and sticking at about 3/4 the way through... so took it back on the Sunday morning, and they were adamant that it had to go back to the manufacturer for checking and I would only get a replacement      IF...  they decided it was faulty... I stood my ground for 3 hours in their "shop" demanding my consumer rights.... eventually they caved in, and gave me a refund... but no apologies...
Haven`t been back since...but did just check to see what their prices were like...

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

Strange, I've been dealing with Novatech for years, been on their forum and they have been very responsive to problems posted.
Let's be careful out there !

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

shutter, I went into Bridlington today and went in one of those cash converter type shops, there were a few decent second hand laptops at decent prices running win 7. So you could pop in and have a look if there are any of those shops round your way.

Re: Windows 7 on CD/DVD

Novatech,..... Maybe I got the wrong guy on the wrong day... but even then, the manager was just as bad, as he backed him up, and I knew I had the law on my side, and that my contract was with them as MY suppliers,... and that they had a similar contract in law with THEIR supplier..... The Manufacturer was not MY supplier, therefore Novatech had to replace or refund the goods as "not of merchantable quality, nor fit for purpose"...
My Son-in-law, who does some computer building for a hobby, also uses Novatech for some bits and pieces,... and he recommended them, but having had that bad experience, and the eventual price they wanted for a "basic" laptop with no O.S.

this laptop starts at £399.99 if you wanted windows 7 pro  it will be £520.00,

£399.99 is £100.00 more than a basic laptop from Dell WITH Win 8.1 installed...
Have thought about 2nd user machines, but at £300.00 with Dell  I reckon that will do me for the next 10 years... ( if I last that long ! ! ! )...
