Windows 7 Update for today, 15th October.

If you are running a version of Windows older than about ten months, you may get error messages after today's Windows  update. This is apparently caused by a release in the update of a new BitLocker driver. Many manufacturers select BitLocker as a manual start service or disable it; if this is the case today's update will fail with something like "Failure converting Windows Update, reverting changes" and "Trying again" on reboot in a loop.
This is because in older versions of Windows the BitLocker driver couldn't be updated with the service disabled, but newer versions have got round this problem. What you do is to hide the update in the Windows update panel (referring to KB2949927). According to the Microsoft tech I have just spoken to, if your BitLocker service is either on manual or disabled, DO NOT enable it!

For those that want to test if it works on their system(s) (Make Sure You CREATE a SYSTEM RESTORE POINT prior to installing the (KB2949927) Update
You will find the (KB2949927) Update under the Important section of the updates

Interesting, that update failed for me with an illogical error code. So I just disabled (hid) it as it didn't seem very relevant to me.
I then did a search on the MS web site and it's standalone downloads have disappeared!
Maybe they've pulled it already and are working on a version that will install OK.

I wonder how many will have theirs set to automatic updates, instead of manual ?

I think only 1 or 2 clients actually use Bitlocker (well I can count the number on one hand)
No friends or family use it either (that I know of)
It would be curious from a statistical point of view, to see how many use it worldwide

Just did a manual update and its still listed as an important update and listed on the website, so not fixed/removed yet

FWIW, I updated this morning  (before this thread appeared) and had no problems when my machine rebooted. Having said that, I don't think BitLocker is installed on this machine, anyway.

Probably unrelated as my version of Win 7 doesn't have Bitlocker but on restarting the computer to finish the install it went through the normal procedure and went to installing your updates which apparently completed but then it rebooted again - very odd

You should only have the Enterprise edition in a corporate environment and if you have the "Ultimate" edition it is more likely to be a pirate copy than anything else.

Just ran the update on my Ultimate 'N' machine and it all went well. No error messages and all updates installed.
One minor difference was that the Ultimate machine had 2 reboots whereas the Pro machine (this one) only rebooted once!
I wonder why M$ put out the BitLocker update to machines other than Ultimate and Enterprise???

PS - My Ultimate machine is 'street legal' and licenced!
