Windows 7 Indexing

Is there really any advantage of having this ticked in preferences?
It seems to me that it actaully slows disc access somewhat albeit searches are probably faster. Have never searching without it set.
Is it just a matter of unticking it turn it off or does something else have to be done in order for W7 Explorer to ;forget' the indexes (or is that indices).

Re: Windows 7 Indexing

XP has this too iirc and I've never used it. I've never seen it in XP pro but on my XP home netbook I turned it off straight away and never really missed it.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
