I don't know if this should be on the software or hardware forum. Windows 7 keeps on hanging, sometimes it sticks on the welcome screen and sometimes when I get on to the desktop it freezes when I try and open a prog. I don't know if it is a software or hardware problem. I am currently using a live Linux cd and everything seems to be OK. Any ideas?

I first noticed the problems when trying to update - it would freeze when installing the updates.

First thing to do is roll back to before you had the problem using the restore option
With respect to the updates make sure that the only updates are the important ones - not the optional ones as this includes device drivers which can really screw things up
