Hi All

No, I suggest you get an alternative.

Re: Windows 7 - Can you put Outlook Express

Windows Live Mail is the (updated) equivalent. You'll need to download it.
Personally I prefer (and use) the "old" 2009 version, though you may not be given that option and have to use 2011.
I think the 2009 version is still available for XP users, though whether you can install it on W7 now I don't know.

Free email progs - see:

Personally I use Thunderbird, it's a bit clunky for Newsgroups but handles email well.

Re: Windows 7 - Can you put Outlook Express

I'm still using 2009 Live Mail although I had to uninstall 2011. Like HP, I didn't like the later version either - there is no menu bar and not even the facility to Select All - you have to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A.  Fortunately I still had the installer in my downloads file.  I think that it can still be got from somewhere on the Internet but not sure where.  I think that it is the easier version for the transfer from Outlook Express. Mozilla Thunderbird is fairly similar but Live Mail is better IMO.  Just be careful to tick Mail only when you download or you'll wind up with all the attendant paraphernalia such as Messenger (which you may not want).

It's available at http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_live_mail/8305/
But you may already know that!  Smiley

Re: Windows 7 - Can you put Outlook Express

All email programs are fairly similar and I don't know of one that cannot import your old emails from an old Outlook Express folder.  So the fact that Outlook Express has been discontinued should not cause any particular inconvenience.

Re: Windows 7 - Can you put Outlook Express

I'm not a Thunderbird user, but I have installed it for a few people and assisted them with migration.
Personally I find it a bit "retro" and limiting in some areas, though if you're used to Outlook Express it may well seem more familiar than the newer Microsoft alternatives.
Each to their own, but I prefer Outlook 2003, though am actually using 2007 as my main email client.
As noted above I also like and use Live Mail 2009 (& very much dislike 2011).

You need a license from Microsoft. It is NOT free. Outlook alone costs about £80 to £100, or it is some editions of Office - not the student/family ones though.
It is also 2 versions behind current so you'll only be able to buy it from "old stock"

Re: Windows 7 - Can you put Outlook Express

Thanks HPsouce and SteveM.
I shall have to hunt for old stock.  I assume that it will work with both XP and Win7.
