Windows 10 update

Latest update in progress, 55% complete, 45 minutes after starting update. Is this typical?

Re: Windows 10 update

It's not untypical. The last update I did took around an hour on a Ryzen 7 1800X processor!

Re: Windows 10 update

If it's the version update 1703 (which is being rolled-out quite gradually) then 55% after 45 minutes is good going.

Re: Windows 10 update

The 55% after 45 mins could be a red herring, as it is doing multiple restarts during the updates. I can't say any more about how long it took as I had to leave it running when I left home. Hopefully it's finished by now.

Re: Windows 10 update

If it's doing multiple restarts then it's almost certainly the 1703 version update.  This (and other previous version updates) take an age to complete.

Re: Windows 10 update

It was the Creator's update.

Re: Windows 10 update

If it's the Creator update then that's why its taking a time. The download is several GBs before it starts to install.

Re: Windows 10 update

My wife's laptop has been trying to install an update for at least 3 hours, and is still going - it looks just like one of the weekly updates that you get at bootup, which she started before she went to work (which she did before I came home). Therefore:-

(1) How do you identify which update it is?

(2) If it is this Creator thing (or was that a joke), how long will this take?

(3) Although it says do not power down, should I power down anyway, and try to restart it?

My unreliable memory tells me this same type of problem came up for me a few months back. I have tried searching for old topics that I started to see if the answer to Q3 is there already, but so far I haven't found it. Is there a way to get Search to find my old topics?

Thanks and regards

Re: Windows 10 update

Its okay, my crisis is over. I found the old topic that covered the same problem, and used the same solution again (successfully).
