Re: Win 7 query - email

I don't quite understand the question.  You have an email program and you want to make it the default?  Or do you want it to appear on the Start menu or Task Bar?
If it's (1) then all email programs have an option setting to make them the default and will usually prompt you about it if they're not.
If it's (2) then right click the icon that starts your program and choose 'Pin to Start Menu' or  'Pin to Taskbar'.
There is also a mail setting in Control Panel but you probably don't need to use that.

Does this help?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555566
You can also get to the internet options via the control panel without having to open Internet Explorer.

Re: Win 7 query - email

@Jelv, RR thanks for reply.
By choosing start>default programs>set you default program....outlook is not listed (my only email program).
When I try to email from web page I'm informed 'your default email program is not set'.
the microsoft example says 'set the default program' but does not tell me how to 'add it' to the list

Re: Win 7 query - email

What web browser are you using? I think it's possible to bypass the windows setup within Firefox and set up a program to forward any mailto links.
That's RPM to you!!

Re: Win 7 query - email

In Outlook (2007 - I think it's pretty much the same in other versions):
Tools
Options
Other
Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts and Calendar
Does that do it?

Re: Win 7 query - email

An idea: try disabling and saving the option in Outlook and then exit Outlook. Now start Outlook. It might ask if you want to make it the default. If not go to the options and turn it on again. That might kick it in to life.

Re: Win 7 query - email

If send to mail recipient works it means that as far as Windows is concerned, Outlook is correctly configured as the default email client, so it looks like it's something to do with your browser setup.
