Win 10 User Access Control changed; now blocked out of my hard drive -C :(

(WINDOWS 10 HOME)

I changed some settings on the UAC (Access Controls) to enhance security and though I can access My Documents, I am now blocked out of "C" drive as screenshot*.  It shows as having no owner, and won't let
me allocate one to it.

Trying to fix via various Windows interfaces has defeated me so far.

*MY DOCUMENTS IS ON THE C DRIVE, so I can access, but M/S Office won't run if I click on Outlook/ Word/Excel files.

2nd image with mut, shows error message I sometimes now see on boot.

Thanks.

DEVICE NOT NETWORKED; I am sole user and have admin rights.

Any advice appreciated.

Tks; however he could see his C drive properly (size of drive etc), unlike on mine.

Whilst he played with his new "I" drive, interesting that he kept getting denied messages, but seemed to work in end .
I shall persevere, and may need to get professional help if not sorted soon Smiley

No worries, I learn`t a long time ago , if you like to dabble, you have to accept the consequences Smiley

@Gel - Have you tried editing the registry in Safe Mode?

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System find the EnableLUA key and change it’s value to 0

Done of course at your own risk!

Re: Win 10 User Access Control changed; now blocked out of my hard drive -C :(

have you installed the anniversary update on your pc ?

if you did then go to the settings menu and uninstall the update then see if things start to just work, failing that you can try a refresh install, where it keeps all your programs and documents.

ive done both to get my pc working again after windows anniversary update loaded in some files that borked my pc, apparently my hardware configuration wasn't compatible (running an old SSD) and the driver updates installed for the anniversary update deleted the ones for the ssd and various other bits n pieces (including the cpu) and it refused ot work at all ..... I might get a new harddrive or I might just wait for M$ to fix their shizzle

just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

What exactly did you do?

It doesn't really sound like a UAC (User Account Control) issue, it sounds more like a file and directory ownership and permissions issue (ACLs - access control lists). Sometimes you need to remove any Deny permissions that have been set, because the Deny permissions take priority over the Allow permissions.

You might as well also try checking the disk for filesystem errors (chkdsk), chkdsk usually finds a few minor things to tidy up, although I doubt it will fix this issue.

Fix

Sometimes you can get out of this sort of mess by creating a new user account, giving it Administrator rights, copying your files to the new account then finally deleting the old one.  This works because the new account has Windows default privileges.

You appear to have succeeded.  Thumbs_Up
