Why you should run noscript addon with Firefox- major security implication

If you go to this site - http://startpanic.com/ and click start it will show you the browsing history as stored in your browser.
It is all done with javascript apparently and the code can easily be set to run automatically.
Note as far as I know there isn't an equivalent addon for Internet Explorer

Re: Why you should run noscript addon with Firefox- major security implication

Have been using Noscript for quite a while but each time I enable it I find that in time I disable it because I get fed up with the thing popping up and occupying screenspace. I also find that it seems to slow down browsing and in the past I have messed things up when paying for stuff online because I have forgotten to give the website full permission. Maybe it is just me, but I do find it a bit irritating.
Switched it back on having read the website although don't think that anyone would send me an e-mail and I don't get spam (luckily).

Re: Why you should run noscript addon with Firefox- major security implication

hmm
this is interesting -- it only detected 3 sites -- google, startpanic.com and (unfortunately) my bank's website -- whereas I have been around quite a few sites today which show up in my browser's history
I use Opera, with Javascript switched on.

Re: Why you should run noscript addon with Firefox- major security implication

I completed the test  after running CCleaner and after closing Firefox (I have it set to clear everything at close down).
It didn't show anything up at all so I thought that I had made a mistake or was missing the point.  Huh

no Poppy, it just reports whats in your Browser Cache, cant see  that as being a new security risk

I don't really see how its a major security implication.
That's almost as crazy as suggesting that somebody knowing my IP address would be a bad thing.

I just cleared my browser cache and it still sees loads of sites - it must work off the history

probably, but you can delete that as well click first go to end, shift and click, then delete, doesnt seem to be a simpler delete all

Re: Why you should run noscript addon with Firefox- major security implication

Just set FF to delete everything when you close it down.
That's what I do, and it works fine.
Strangely, the only sites that don'tpanic picked up on for me in FF was dontpanic and airmiles.
It didn't discover that I was here (even though it was sat open in a different tab)
Missed out a couple more too...

Re: Why you should run noscript addon with Firefox- major security implication

As well as having FF set to delete everything when closed down I have the history box unticked so it doesn't save any history at all. Maybe this is why my results threw up nothing at all.

Somebody else who doesn't know about CTRL+A!
Click any line and hit CTRL+A to select everything - that works in loads of programs.

Problem is I rather like the history list - very useful when I forget where I saw something. Comes with old age  Embarrassed
