Re: Why are the technet participants keeping quite about this

I am running Vista for one reason only - I wanted a 64 bit operating system (not Linux) and I wouldn't tough XP 64 bit with a bargepole.
Having said that I find the boot up of Vista to a useable state is getting slower and slower but I can't face a reinstall  Sad

If that were the case they wouldn't be in such a hurry to get Windows 7 out the door.

Re: Why are the technet participants keeping quite about this

I am going to have to do Vista re-install on my daughters laptop at the weekend. It is getting slower and slower to boot and shutdown. There are lots of hardware and software issues that I am giving up on trying to sort out, so it's a re-install, It is the only machine we have here running vista, everything else is XP which I find a lot more manageable.
I would put XP on her machine but I don't have a spare copy.
If any of the vista converts out there would like to donate your old and unused copy of XP........ Tongue

Hmmm not sure about them, don't know how they produce XP CD's.
If it was a Dell any old Dell XP OEM CD would work (desktop or laptop) without any validation issues.... (just need to get the drivers).

In theory the Dell ones work on any manufacturers kit, but you need to copy the files, and alter the Manufacturer=Dell part to whatever manufacturer made your kit, then burn to a CD ready to install from.
Clearly in order to do such a thing you must take responsibility for ensuring that you are fully compliant with any licensing and regulatory obligations/restrictions.
I have managed to do this with Compaq, Fujitsu Siemens and HP Kit
