Which computer am I using?

Is it possible for Plusnet , or any other router connections , to tell whether I am using my desktop or laptop computer from home?
Thanks

Not directly, but when you visit a web page your browser sends a lot of information about what you are using.
http://www.whatsmyip.org/more-info-about-you/ will show you that information.

Re: Which computer am I using?

That is a bit of a tricky question.
If you are using a computer or laptop from your home address through the Plusnet system then you will have an IP address assigned to your router which will identify who you are at that time. This is the same with any ISP.
It is not as easy to work out which machine you are using at the time (i.e. desktop or laptop) only that you have been using the internet at that time from that connection.

Re: Which computer am I using?

Thanks for the replies.
I appreciate that my IP address can be traced but am unclear as to the specific `machine`.
Traciing cookies to the specific computer is I think not feasable as both can have the same cookies but what if i am using VPN ...can my location be traced via cookies from either computer?.

Re: Which computer am I using?

Depends on the IP address and if NAT is in place
Certainly with IPv6 it's more likely that each machine will have a public IP address.
