Which USB Enclosure (SOLVED)

As a follow up to my earlier post on an intermittent external HDD Problem I thought it as well to go ahead and purchase a new usb enclosure and transfer the HDD to that, as suggested by others replying to my post however I am not sure of the exact enclosure to get as there seems to be a fair range of them and some might not be compatable.
The existing external drive in question is,
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Expansions-External-Desktop-Drive/dp/B00238KZPM
Not exactly the same model but housed in the same case and is 1TB
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Which USB Enclosure

I think the suggestion was for a diskless enclosure such as these
The important thing is to find out if the drive you have is 2.5" or 3.5" and if it is SATA or IDE (also known as PATA)

Re: Which USB Enclosure (SOLVED)

It's good that it has an external power supply.
Many get their power from the USB 3 connection.
It is a bit dodgy for a full-sized disk though (especially when used with USB 2).
EDIT!!
It's very expensive though!!!
£115 for 1TB - and only USB 2.0 Shocked Shocked
I'm awaiting delivery of http://www.ebuyer.com/384253-seagate-2tb-expansion-desktop-drive-stbv2000200
Which is 2TB USB 3 (and USB 2) and costs £50+VAT.

Re: Which USB Enclosure (SOLVED)

A word...... from someone who is not a computer geek.... if you have several USB leads, that "look" the same as the one with your enclosure.... not necessarily so.... make sure you use the one supplied with the enclosure.... label  it, or make sure the two are kept together....
Reason?  I have a dual purpose enclosure, that will only work with the lead supplied... any other "similar" lead and it will not show on the "computer" list of available drives...
I also have a couple of other devices that don`t work, unless the correctly supplied lead is plugged into it, and the usb socket (of course) ....

The one I have is a few years old and it was cheaper than £115, possibly because what's in the case is different from the one advertised. I Just gave that link to show the case it was in.
Shutter,
Thanks for that tip, and thanks to others for the responses. Smiley
