I was wondering if anybody could recommend a free forum site that has the minimum of advertising (preferably nothing unsuitable for children). I did look at hosting it on plusnet but I only have the basic package (ie no CGI etc). The only other option I did look into was to host it on a PC in the house but I have a dynamic IP address which appears to make it alot harder.
Any thoughts or links greatly appreciated!!

Hi,
There are many, many sites that provide free hosting of a variety of forums (SMF, YaBB, phpBB, etc), but the real problem with what you are looking for is the advertising.
Most advertisments come from ad-revenue businesses who serve thousands upon thousands of advertisements. These are implements into the site as a collective, rather than choosing specific advertisements to be displayed on certain sites. Due to that fact, it will be very hard to find free hosting that doesn't use advertising that could be unsuitable (not necessarily adult, but in different ways). However, I'll provide you with a few links that you may consider (although I have no idea what kind of advertising is given 100% of the time)

If you went down this route, and use a router which allows for dynamic DNS services such as DynDNS.org, then you could create an account with them which will point to your designated workstation, and the address assigned (semi-chosen by you) will update to the correct IP address each time your router gets a new IP.
