What are folks views on Mail Clients

Hi All,

We are using Microsoft Livemail 2012 on 4 pcs at home and I am thinking of upgrading to another POP client - I want to keep all the emails on my/our computer.

Things have obviously moved on since 2012 and I am looking for recommendations for a new client.  The important caveat however, is being able to import folders and messages from LiveMail.

Thoughts, comments

Thanks

Mike

google is your friend.... !

I have been using Thunderbird for years  ......   https://www.thunderbird.net/en-GB/

According to this... linky   https://mailsettings.co/import-windows-live-mail-thunderbird

With the help of the import option, you can move all your emails, calendars, and contacts from Windows live to Mozilla thunderbird using how to import Windows live mail to Thunderbird instructions.

Scroll down the rest of the page for all instructions..

Used the various ones that came with Windows (Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail etc.) until 2015 when I switched to Mozilla Thunderbird.  Not had any problems with it.

Re: What are folks views on Mail Clients

I prefer Outlook purely because it can be used as a IMAP client instead of a pop3 client. That means all the mail stays on the server in one place and if you have web access you can access it anywhere. Once it's been downloaded via pop that's a little different.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

And POP3 clients can be set to leave email on the server (i.e. not delete it).  Wink

(Although I'd agree IMAP is usually more useful and convenient)

But do keep an eye on the total file size. I started to get warnings about my boxes becoming full - 12Gb of emails in the Inbox alone. Considering my emails went back to way before 2000, I decided maybe a good idea to archive 10 years of them locally. Thunderbird made it a breeze to do. Will I ever read them - hardly. Unless I decide to go down memory lane.

Ever helpful. Grin Sure, I’d love to help you out. Now which way did you come in?

@idonno  and , of course... to prove your innocence, if required, by mr plod ! ! ..

" where were you on the morning of 3rd september at about 1015am in 2008?"

Uhm.... let me check......   Ah yes... I was sending an email to my "pharmacist" about renewing my "prescription" and asking about when the delivery would be made.  See ?  here is my email going out at... 10:14 on that very date

" ah .. Ok.. then... Thanks very much..  Good bye "!

But that means nothing @shutter, for all Mr. Plod knows you could have been at the crime scene while you were emailing your Pharmacist!

Re: What are folks views on Mail Clients

Er... yeah.. .to a point.... read between the words... As you know.. it is best to be honest and upfront when questioned by mr plod  !

for "pharmacist"   read  Drug dealer

for "prescription"  read drugs ordered
