Web site connection problem

Over the past few days I've been experiencing problems with my desktop computer running Windows 7, being unable to connect to websites.  My preferred browser is Google Chrome, but the problem also occurs with Internet Explorer.  I've checked that the versions of each browser are the most up to date for Windows 7, I've  deleted the temporary file cache and all cookies, I've done two full scans, neither of which found anything amiss, nor have there been reports by plusnet of ongoing work which might cause any problem  I use the free version of Avast anti virus, and the free version of Zone Alarm firewall, I've checked, and there's nothing on my computer which might conflict with either.  I've just done a plusnet speed test which shows a download speed of 4.91Kbp/s and an upload speed of 4.63Kbp/s.  Can anyone think of something I've missed or offer any suggestions/solutions to resolve the problem?

Which OS/browser/firewall/antivirus are you using?  
I've heard of someone else with this problem too, She's using windows 8, and that's all I've been told

Windows 7 SP1 64Bit, firefox (did have Chrome but uninstalled it because i thought it was that), Windows Firewall, avira free anti virus.

I've put this up on another couple of forums.  It's early days yet but no one's made any response on either. I'll give it another few days, but I'm reluctantly coming to the conclusion that I'll have to do a reinstall, which is a bit much for a computer only four months old.

Are you both using a wireless or wired connection

wired   but after changing DNS server problem gone (i hope)

Can you try testing
1. With a different filter
2. Connected in the test socket
3. Test a Wireless connection (if applicable)
4. Update drivers
5. Try a different Ethernet cable
6. Test alternate Router (if applicable)
What make / model router are you currently using

I changed both filters, and that seems to have done the trick.
