Watching World Cup in HD

OK - basically I don't have a HD TV (no Freeview HD service in my area yet anyway) but would like to see some matches on my 17 inch laptop at work - but apparently no Freeview HD USB dongles are going to be ready in time for the World Cup:

Does anyone know if there is some kind of web stream of any matches - I thought I read somewhere last year that BBC iplayer may do this (live)?
Many thanks.

Superb quality.

Re: Watching World Cup in HD

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know but my home is apparently now in a freeview HD area but don't have a HD TV. Just wanted to watch a match or two on my laptop in HD if it is possible - the laptop is a macbook pro. Cheers.

Re: Watching World Cup in HD

Bear in mind your workplace will need a TV licence if you watch any live broadcast, whether from the airwaves or the internet, even if it is your own laptop. You generally don't need a licence if you only watch things after they are broadcast e.g. with iPlayer.
See here to get it from the horse's mouth.

Re: Watching World Cup in HD

So if I shipped my big living room TV to my Holiday home and plugged it in, I wouldn't need a licence?
or would I need to buy an inverter so I could run it off the car battery? Grin Grin Grin

Re: Watching World Cup in HD

do as I did look it up http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/for-your-home/second-home-aud8/
Quote
You don’t need a separate TV Licence for
Any device powered solely by its own internal batteries (i.e. it is not connected to an aerial or plugged into the mains). Your main home’s TV Licence will cover this.
Boats, touring caravans or vehicles as they’re already covered by your main home’s TV Licence.
Static caravans, mobile homes or moveable chalets. Your main home’s TV Licence will cover you provided you don’t watch TV in both homes at the same time. In this case you would need to complete a declaration form.
