W7 and Network Profiles

WIth todays outages and slow internet I decided to connect using my mother's Sky connection.
Having turned on her wireless and set up WEP, etc. I connected using my laptop.
I then had to change the TCP properties from being explicitly set to automatic. I then had to change it back when connecting to my own network.
I noticed each time I swapped that W7 asked if I wanted to create a profile for each conection in turn so set them up (blbdly as I had never created profiles before).
Even so, each time I swapped connection the previous TCP settings were still there and I had to change them again.
Have I misunderstood the nature of Network Profils or is there something else I have missed?
Cheers.

Re: W7 and Network Profiles

These profiles exist on Vista as well.
They are only used for security & file sharing settings AFAIK.
TCP settings are per adapter rather than per profile.
