Virus Scan

I'm running a scan on my PC. Why is it that when the PC isn't running a scan things go fast but

Because the virus scan is using processor power and memory.
If you press Ctrl Alt Del and select processes you can see what is running and how much processor power it is using

I'm sure Oldjim meant Ctrl Alt Del, then Task Manager, then Processes.

i vaguely remember that i would run a virus scan on boot late at night, so it worked while i slept.  can't recall how i managed that.  that way the scanner has the processor to itself, without the cruddy operating system getting in the way.

I also have my scan done in the dead of the night. AVG has a scheduler that allows you to specify times for updates and scans, so mine does an update at 4am, then a full scan at 5am. It's simple, but effective.
