Video files - burn fails

I have been using Nero 7 OEM and a Samsung SH-S203P SATA DVD drive to burn video and ISO images without problems.
Firmware is up to date and I am using Vista 64 bit
However for the last few weeks the burns have failed with this error
Quote
#27 CDR -1046 File Writer.cpp, Line 303
Illegal disc
G: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203P
11:14:19    #28 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 3783
EndDAO: Last written address was 63 (3Fh)
11:14:19    #29 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1762
Burn process failed at 12x (16,620 KB/s)
I have tried dropping the burn speed to 4X but it hasn't helped.
I can copy the files to my XP computer and burn there with Nero 6 without problems.
Is it likely that the drive is starting to play up or something has gone wrong following one of the Vista patches

Re: Video files - burn fails

Is it worth trying cleaning the laser optics for the drive?
It would explain an ability to read, but not write.

Re: Video files - burn fails

Sounds like it is nero, if you can burn with a lesser version,  the drive is not liking something in the set up,  I always use Ashampoo burning Studio, does the job with out the clutter of nero with which I always seem to get problems especially since switching to a lightscribe

That could be unfortunately with Vista 64 bit I am somewhat limited - thought (heresy I know)  - doesn't vista include a burning tool- must check

Re: Video files - burn fails

I am no vista expert, I haven't even seen it in operation.  I think you are right, it has a burning tool, based on Roxio.  just off the top of my flies landing ground, could the two Roxio and Nero be causing a conflict.
I notice reading around that several others have had or got this problem all using different makes of Burner.
I don't know what you want to burn and whether this would be any help. but it is my favourite F word    FREE

Re: Video files - burn fails

Just tried imgburn - worked like a charm.
Except that flaming noise when it finishes - I had the speakers on  Grin
Thanks for the help - looks as though it is Nero and Vista 64 bit  Angry

Re: Video files - burn fails

A while ago, I had ROXIO installed, then someone suggested, and loaned me their Nero disc.... on the setup it complained that there was a conflict with ROXIO and it must be uninstalled before Nero could be installed and run correctly.... so you may be finding, as someone said, a conflict with the VISTA 64 burner..............
