I've been using (free) 4K Video Downloader for several years. (It's not just for 4K Videos )

Agree with @Mook - youtube-dl is good and free.
Also have used Aimersoft products which are fine.
If it helped click the thumb
If it fixed it click 'This fixed my problem'

My thanks to @dvorak , @RobPN and @Mook . I tried downloading youtube-dl but it seemed to be asking for several other downloads such as Microsoft C++ and others, so I thought with my computer ability I would get into great difficulty so chickened out. I successfully downloaded Aimersoft, but only then did it mention money, so after spending 5 minutes staggering around clutching my wallet, I uninstalled it. I have downloaded 4k Video Downloader, so am playing with that. Looks good so far

I agree with @RobPN Excellent and FREE.... and you can choose what "quality" of video you want to download... Works on Windows and LINUX MINT...
If you want an excellent VIDEO CONVERTER program... choose MediaCoder https://www.mediacoderhq.com/download.htm
An alternative way , is to use VOKOSCREEN... screen capture software.... you play the video, and you activate vokoscreen,... set the screen size required by moving the frame/edges resizing it... ... only problem is that you cannot do anything on the screen area, or have any other sound activity going on at same time as recording, e.g. moving the mouse cursor across the recording area... as that will also be recorded.

I use get_iplayer or bit torrent or plain old doenloads.
It's a long since a specialised video downloader program is required - unless you want screen capture software.
