Quote The OPOC has been in development for several years, and the company claims it’s 30 percent lighter, one quarter the size and achieves 50 percent better fuel economy than a conventional turbo diesel engine.

At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.

Though with a bit of modern microprocessor control over turbo/injectors etc. it's amazing what can be done with a diesel engine these days, so in combination who knows?
And as for the Deltic, I remember the weird "buzz" they used to make as they rocketed by us young lads trainspotting on the Midland Line.

In ideal conditions and using an expert driver considerable MPG figures can be obtained but these are well above what an average driver would get in today's traffic.
Years ago I had a Golf GTi Mark 2 which had an on board computer, amazing by how much the MPG figure altered from average when driving above or below 30 MPH.
It could get down to less than 10MPG when moving in slow traffic.

prod the japanese and others to get on building those exoskeletal aids such that we can all have one. we can all run to and fro with much less effort and use our own bodies as engines.

I think what Artificer was referring to is the petrol variety lubricated by oil mixed with the fuel. Horrible and smelly indeed.
Bears no resemblance to anything else discussed here.
(though a big Deltic could chuck out some muck at full chat!)
