I can not get VPN to working on the internal network, it used to work fine on SKY why not on Plusnet?

Different IP address range? Plusnet routers typically have IP address 192.168.1.254 whilst Sky routers typically use 192.168.0.1 .

Nope - i've got the correct IP address, and I assume that the routers firewall would not affect anything going though it on this side.
I won't even reply to a ping

Not all machines will reply to pings.

It did until I moved to plusnet

it could be that they are blocking your incoming connection.
