Using WiFi for mobile calls

Ok, I'm a luddite but my new mobile had the option to use wi-fi when making a call, from my mobile.
Am I okay to do this?

BTW I have broadband and line only, no landline calls package.

Re: Using WiFi for mobile calls

@Stranger Perfectly OK - if your phone is connected to a Wi-fi network it should default to that anyway - 3/4/5G is only used when you aren't.

@Stranger

To clarify what  @jab1  says I believe that it depends on your mobile provider and according to this Plusnet mobile does not support WiFi calling, see. https://www.simsherpa.com/networks/plusnet-mobile/review-and-guide?accept-cookies

Re: Using WiFi for mobile calls

It only uses your WiFi if its a better connection than your normal phone signals.
According to Google
EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three each offer Wi-Fi Calling in some form, as do some MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators), but some offer more options or make it available to more phones than others.

Re: Using WiFi for mobile calls

Hello

I have had WiFi Calling with EE for nearly 5 years and basically it has changed my home from a no go zone for mobiles to one where not having a signal is not a problem.

My broadband is provided by Plusnet.

Cheers

Howard

Re: Using WiFi for mobile calls

Some time ago I signed up for an EE deal at Carphone Warehouse which included a Samsung S6.

I had a play with the phone back at home and discovered WiFi calling which I couldn't configure.

I went back to Carphone Warehouse and they explained that the phone had Carphone Warehouse firmware.

In order to use WiFi calling the phone had to have EE firmware.

Re: Using WiFi for mobile calls

Or plain old Samsung firmware?

I'm not an expert on such matters, but perhaps you can re-flash the firmware?

(My SIM free S7 can do WiFi calling)

That is interesting. I thought they would just be stock. Obviously badly designed software.
