Usage figures

Hi,
I've just joined plusnet, really pleased so far.
I've been looking at my usage figures and I'm trying to track down some unexpected use.
According to the usage figures I'm using approx 15MB between 00:00 and 08:00.
Is it possible to get a more accurate breakdown of when my use is occuring ?
Also, I notice the usage site says it doesn't include data for the previous 2 hours.  However, when I checked today at 9:00 it showed I'd used a few KB of data for today.  If the data really is 2 hours behind it should still be showing only data for 00:00 to 08:00 and nothing for the actual daily amount shouldn't it ?
Thanks
Paul

Re: Usage figures

The data can be up to 2 hours behind, usage processing is much faster now and is normally a lot closer to the actual time than 2 hours.
15MB over 8 hours can be attributed to background usage, packets sent to and from your router to keep the connection alive.

Re: Usage figures

That is a heck of a lot for overnight usage when nothing is using the internet - mine is usually about 230kB
Is it possible to check whether it was mostly in one short burst or spread evenly over the full 8 hours

Re: Usage figures

I agree with you Oldjim, 15MB (thats megabytes) is high for just "staying alive".
I monitored my usage yesterday during the day and it was far closer to your figures.
I've only 3 things connected to the network which could possibly power up, these are a NAS, set top box and Blue Ray.
Have ruled out the NAS.  Set top box is next.
Would plusnet know when the data was used or is it just accumulative figures ?  I'm suspecting a burst rather than steady use.
Thanks
Paul

Re: Usage figures

One of the guys in the office can get you the hourly usage, I'll give them a nudge.

Re: Usage figures

Thanks for posting that Adam.
Sorry to be a pain but any chance you could post similar logs for 13th December ?
Cheers

Set top box updating ?

Re: Usage figures

Investigation still on going but it does looks like my set top box updating the freetime epg.
It looks as though it uses about 40MB/hour when out of standby just to keep the freetime epg up to date.
If that's the case it's a ridiculous amount of data especially when you consider I've not viewed any freetime stuff or looked at the freetime epg.
Assuming 40MB/hour and the box is out of standby for 5 hours each day that's around 6GB/month.  Can't be right, can it ?
