Upgrading memory on Laptop.

I have found a secret compartment on the back of my laptop, which has a memory stick in it !... shame, it is only 1Gb.... so I want to upgrade it to 2Gb....
Running a CPUID scan on it shows that the memory is DDR2 PC2-5300(333Mhz)..... However I can only find 667Mhz on my searches for cheap replacements...
Can I use the 667Mhz stick? or does it have to be 333Mhz?

I could be wrong but I think PC5300 is 667MHz (as they often quote it), the difference is CPUID may be quoting the base clock speed of 333 where the memory suppliers quote the double data rate speed of 667.

You need to check the full memory spec to check the number of pins and whether it is low profile as laptop memory is often a bit special
I suggest trying crucial UK to get exactly the correct memory - you can then look for a cheaper option if needed

DDR stands for Double Data Rate. DDR2 533 runs at 266.5 Mhz, DDR2 667 runs at 333.3 Mhz, DDR2 800 runs at 400 Mhz.
Your memory is running at DDR2 667 speed.  
But I would do what the others say, Crucial is generally spot on with specifications and their prices are still quite competitive too.

Point about 667..... just noticed on the orginal Memory stick a label that says DDR II 1GB667 .....
and the Customer support guy sent me a link to

because the crucial scan, could not "definitely" say what memory was installed !...

Update..... piece of cake... fitted the new memory no problems.... seems to be working fine...

Wish I could fix my memory as easily, but I doubt whether the nhs would oblige
