A bit like starting your car quicker, but being unable to get out of your driveway because the bin lorry is there !  Cheesy

Re: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (BIOS replacement)

What's this got to do with Windows anyway?

Since Linux boots up so quickly anyway the first comment wouldn't have been applicable  Roll_eyes

Re: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (BIOS replacement)

True - my PC sits in BIOS for a several seconds, then waits whilst the disks spin up.
Actual boot is around 8 seconds.
Login is about 5 seconds (to fully operational).

Re: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (BIOS replacement)

The introduction of UEFI to PCs sounds like a good opportunity to ditch the MBR in favour of GPT and have PCs finally catch up with Apple Macs.
(Shouldn't this be in Hardware?)

But not Windows software.
I'm posting this from a MacBook; it has an Intel Extensible Firmware Interface. One might reasonably argue that firmware is also, at least in part, software.
Does this mean that discussion of (U)EFI is better suited to the Mac(/Linux) Software forum?
I would argue not; the relevant software is not MacOS related.
In the context of this thread both BIOS and UEFI are much more closely associated with the system hardware than whatever OS may be installed.

Re: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (BIOS replacement)

Ideally a general computer discussion board would have covered it but as it isn't a physical item but a piece of software or firmware on the motherboard this seemed to be the best of a bad job
