Just got my email about it  still have to the 31st of July to get your stuff out. Bit of a bummer considering I've spent all weekend at work swapping two xp machines to Linux. Actually ones still syncing as we speak. Might as well cancel that then and get some more Dropbox space.

Its a step in the wrong direction for Ubuntu IMO. There is only one and Dropbox that have syncing software for Linux. Having just set up two systems I found having a built in native cloud app quite a feature. The problem with drop box is you have to put your folders into the Dropbox folder as opposed to one where you can select folders to sync.
I also have lots of storage at other cloud providers but for work purposes I really need a syncing software.

I am grudgingly moving to Google Drive. None of my sensitive data is backed up online, just movies and my flac collection. Dropbox appear to want to charge me 49.99 USD a month for a measly 500GB whereas Google Drive want 9.99 USD a month for 1TB. Unless I am missing something Dropbox want five times the money for 50% of the space.

You can just sym link them in (If using an OS that supports sym links)

Off-site backup has its merits though, especially at £5.97* per month for a TB.

I presently have 15GBytes in my Gmail account.
http://sr71.net/projects/gmailfs/ allows you to use a Gmail account as a remote File System.
Cost = nothing.
Features encryption where you don't have to give the key to Dropbox.
Alternatively, there's the unencrypted Google Drive...

That's a neat little tool but I need more space due to the size of my media library. As said, nothing remotely personal gets backed up in the cloud. I've not even bothered checking if Google Drive supports encryption as all I have online is flacs and films. My 20 years worth of mafia supplied wholesale parmesan cheese receipts are hidden in a plastic baked bean tin 
If I do need encryption and it doesn't support it natively there are probably tools available and I suppose there is nothing against uploading TrueCrypt volumes, except maybe file size limits. The independent audit is partially complete now, too.

I've been doing a bit of reading up on that.  Some other good options to look into here as well.  I use Drop Box and previously Ubuntu One for work. Being cross platform is a major selling point for me and unusually for anything Linux there was an Ubuntu one app for every device I use.  It's not as much as cloud storage I need rather the ability to edit a document and have that synced across multiple devices as I work on it. I also have much more cloud storage space with other suppliers but no syncing tool that I can use for larger unimportant files.

I don't use the cloud for my personal files - but use it for society i belong to.
What do people think of the F-Secure offering - given that it is in a EU country and free from interference perhaps from the US !!!.
I tend to trust the Finnish more than many other nations.

I dropped Dropbox when they gave that USA spymaster a job.
I'm using SpiderOak now - not as good, but it's good enough for me as I just use it to sync a low volume of files.
