Does anyone have an solution for this ?
I did have a perfectly working Firefox under Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10), but since upgrading to Lucid Lynx (10.04 LTS), the new Firefox search toolbar now defaults to the American versions of Google.com, Yahoo.com, Amazon.com, Answers.com, Ask.com, eBay.com, etc...
Firefox (under Karmic Koala) previously used the expected UK (.co.uk) versions of these sites.
The Ubuntu upgrade was done from UK mirror sites.
My Ubuntu is still set to the correct timezone :-
System, Administration, Time and Date, Time zone: Europe/London
Firefox 3.6.3 language settings look OK :-
Preferences, Content, Languages = English/United Kingdom [en-gb]
Preferneces, General, Add-ons, Manage Add-ons, Languages = Firefox (en-GB)
The relevant Firefox internal configuation variables are as follows :-
about:config,
distribution.searchplugins.defaultLocale = en-GB
extensions.enabledItems = ... langpack-en-GB ...
general.useragent.locale = en-GB
intl.accept_languages = en-gb, en
spellchecker.dictionary = en-GB
As an experiment I have tried editing the 'google.xml' files to refer to 'google.co.uk' instead of 'google.com', I have change ALL the google.xml files in the following directories :-
/usr/lib/firefox-addons/searchplugins/en-GB
/usr/lib/firefox-addons/searchplugins/en-US
/usr/lib/firefox-3.6.3/searchplugins/en-GB
/usr/lib/firefox-3.6.3/searchplugins/en-US
I have looked through the usual Ubuntu forums, and Launchpad, and googled the problem. It appears that other people have get the same issue, but no solution.
So anyone else here got this problem ?, or have you found a work around ??, or any ideas
I am aware that there is a Firefox "experimental" search add-on that uses google.co.uk, but that would only help on google searches. I want ALL the search tools to work correctly - like they used to !

The work-round is surely to remove the search toolbar and use the Google search page?
I always do this anyway - personal preference and it has a few advantages.
I customise the toolbar to add an icon to open a new window & set Google as my home page.

You can change them individually, although it will be slightly laborious.
Click the down arrow by the Google icon, click "Manage Search Engines...", then "Get more search engines...", which takes you to Firefox's add-ons website. Search fro Google UK, select it and add to the list. Then remove any .com entries you don't want in the manager. Like I said, a bit laborious, but it should work.
