I have just updated to 8.10. [It took a long time to download and install.]
Everything appears to be working ok except Ubuntu will only run in low graphics mode and I am struggling with installing the ATI graphics card driver.

I had exactly the same problem with my Nvidia drivers when I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10. Eventually I gave up, reformatted and did a clean install with 8.10, drivers worked fine again after that.

Re: Ubuntu 8.10

Ditto that.
I gave up too in the end. I did a clean install and everything works fine [Ekiga is not set up yet though]
The clean install and restoring backed up profiles only took a fraction of the time the upgrade took.

Re: Ubuntu 8.10

Can't update Nvidia drivers while running the live CD version as a reboot starts again from scratch Sad
...but I'm liking 8.10 so far Smiley

Re: Ubuntu 8.10

You would like it even more when you install it. Dual boot is a good way to start.

Re: Ubuntu 8.10

Does anyone know how to change the computer name in 8.10??  There was a GUI in 8.04, but this seems to have disappeared in ibex. Upgraded from 8.04, due to issues finding my windows network ( spelt out in another forum, and alsop could not get SWAT to work either). Cannot figure out how to change workgroup and PC name in 8.10.

Re: Ubuntu 8.10

You could change your computer name in your /etc/hostname file.
Try
sudo nano /etc/hostname

I think you will also need to add this name to your /etc/hosts file.
I suggest you also put your other local machine names in /etc/hosts.
