USB 2.0 v Firewire

Can someone educate me over the simple difference between USB 2.0 & Firewire ? Some external Hard drives mention Firewire connections, is this an advantage over USB 2.0 in terms of speed or anything else ?

Re: USB 2.0 v Firewire

Both nearly the same, but two different animals and plugs, one wont fit in the other, Firewire stated off on Macs, and Cameras,  the original USB was slow, USB 2 is about the same as Firewire

Re: USB 2.0 v Firewire

Provided your computer has a FireWire port, it is always better for an external hard drive than USB 2.0 - if your computer has a FW800 port then if you buy a drive that also supports that you'll be even further ahead of USB 2.0.

Re: USB 2.0 v Firewire

The key thing is most pc have USB very few have firewire so if you got a Firewire HD your couldn't  plug it into every pc like you could a USB.USB 3 should be out soon which will be faster
