I Have been trying to update a Garmin GPS but keep getting ' The parameter is incorrect message'...... contacted Garmin about this and they responded as follows,
The MULTIPLELICENSESPAGE.CPP error indicates that the WebUpdater can not
copy the needed files for the update of the GPS unit.
This error can be caused by several things:
· A security program interfering during download
· A download manager causing issues while accessing the files
· A bad connection with the server
Disable any security programs first: Norton, McAfee, etc. Try a direct
internet connection if using a wireless connection. Also try
un-installing the Web Updater from your add/remove programs list and
then re-download it and try it again.
So one question, is it too risky to turn off a security program such as a firewall or anti virus program ?

That's what I thought, bit irresponsible for a company like Garmin to be suggesting such a thing.
Looks like I will have to give the update a miss but it means I can't really buy another Garmin Product that may need updating.
Why can't they keep it simple and just allow down load of a file you can drag across into the Garmin ?

Depending on the model you don't need to use the online download system.
Just save the new firmware to your disk and then drag the file over the Garmin updater and it will update with that file

It's a fairly old model C510.
Not sure how I would get access to the file other than using the download program supplied by Garmin ?
From what I can see the download program finds the correct file and downloads it straight to your garmin, there does not seem to be any facility that allows download direct to your computer so the file can be dragged across........unless I am missing something.
