Re: Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS - just released ! - 16:30 17th April 2014

I've renewed my interest in Linux - resurrecting a 3 year old laptop -  and chose Ubuntu 13.04.
I'm impressed with the progress made with Linux desktops in the years since ive been away from it.
But I have since also installed Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop which I am prefering, also knowing Lint is about 99% Ubuntu /Dabien .

You could also say that Ubuntu is 99% Debian...
I prefer Mate desktop but depends on what you are used to, Cinnamon is probably closer to a W7 experience (possibly not used it W7 that is  ;))
Mint includes all the bits that make life easier, DVD player, codecs, etc.
Mint 17 will be out at the end of the month as well. RC's should be out soon.

Re: Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS - just released ! - 16:30 17th April 2014

Just started my upgrades.  First one my netbook I upgraded instead of new install just to see what it was like.  Not off to the best start, wireless card not working after reboot  Smiley wireless card not claimed.  I need to get into Linux more, now I can't remember how to get it working again.  One of these days I'll take notes and save them to save me having to go through this every lts.
I'll probably go clean install on everything else.

I have loaded this on a laptop which with Mint was regularly crashing and put up quite a fight against Wi-Fi connectivity.
With Ubuntu 14.04 it's stable and Wi-Fi just works. Smiley

Only put it on my msi wind netbook so far. Running very smooth with 1gig of ram. So far I like what I'm seeing, very smooth and the layout is intuitive. I think I'll put it on my main desktop tomorrow. Just need to get some blank DVDs, never had any luck on my desktop with usb sticks.

Re: Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS - just released ! - 16:30 17th April 2014

I had a few issues with running Apache with reverse proxies as the included mod_remoteip was giving me trouble. For some reason after a few days of getting nowhere it just seemed to start working again.
I'm running 14.04 on the stepsons PC which he plays Minecraft on and moving my servers over to it after a bit more testing.

Re: Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS - just released ! - 16:30 17th April 2014

I knew I'd end up here at some point  Grin Seem to be having problems installing this on my dektop. Used the LiveCD and got to the point where alls installed and it asks to reboot but it won't shutdown. After a button restart I get the error, no such device found. From there I'm in grub rescue. Been doing some reading and its seems this is a common problem. Anybody any clues on the way forward? If it's any help there's a possibility that I have conflicting grubs. When installing I had a change round of partitioning. I have a 60gig set up as 3gig swap and the rest my / formatted and set as boot and a 160gig set as /home. There is a possibility at some point that this may have been bootable at some point in its life. I may have once swapped about the drives to make this my home folder.

Are you saying you have two physical hard drives?
If so, have you tried reversing the boot order?

Thanks, I managed to get installed by using grub repair amongst other things Smiley not sure what I did to resolve things to be fair.
I'd better start a fresh post before this strays way off topic.
