Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

Just writing to remind folk that tomorrow is Firefox 3 release day (although many will already have it in beta form).
I shall be downloading it myself and would be interested to know what others think about it.

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

I used the last 4 beta versions and haven't had too many issues.
Pages load quickly and the memory footprint does seem to be lower.
Only thing is that a lot of the plug-ins don't work.

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

I have been using it for a while without any issues.
As adiewoo says many extensions don't work, but that's no biggie for me as I don't use many extensions.
The main improvement/new feature seams to be the artificial intelligence of the address bar, that looks through your history and bookmarks, to type ahead URL's.

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

I've been using Firefox 3 (Beta 5) & RC1 for some time know.
Unlike Firefox 2 which had issues with running 32 bit plugins on a 64 bit machine, I can report that all plugins work well and I have yet to see any problems - at all!

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

Dont forget to download it tommorow that is today as I am writing this yesterday as they are trying for a Guinness world record of the most downloaded software in one day.
I have had all the betas and rc1 and rc2 no problems with it download and wait to install it so they get the record

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

Come on oldjim and shutter - where's your fighting spirit?
Have just downloaded it from filehippo and installed same, uninstalling FF2 first.
All went fine - it even added/synchronised my Foxmarks and ReminderFox all by itself with just a few clicks from me. AdblockPlus has also imported automatically. The only thing that hasn't imported is the AVG Link Scanner which it gave a warning about on installation. It offered to search for solutions but I declined as I have it disabled anyway.
It doesn't look a deal different from the last one but I will have to give it some time to know if there are any practical differences.  As long as it gets me on the Internet, is easy to use and is as secure as possible then I am happy.

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

I've been using RC3 for a while now on my work laptop without any major issues. Firefox 2 used to leak memory on my machine like there's no tomorrow which I'm glad is no longer the case.
It's quite easy to hack most extensions to make them work with Firefox 3. You'd be doing so at your own risk of course though.
My main gripe extension wise is that there are no plans to upgrade Google Browser Sync. Instead it looks like I'm going to have to switch to Weave (already installed on my work machine), or Foxmarks.
I have Chatzilla, Digg, FireFTP, Extended StatusBar, Greasemonkey, IETab, PicLens, StumbleUpon, SwitchProxy, TabMixPlus, Tab Scope & TwitterFox all working flawlessly under RC3.

Re: Tomorrow is Firefox 3 day

Looks like the party's started. Firefox 3 is now available for download here.
Edit: Hmmm, maybe not. The download link still takes me to FF2 Undecided
