Thunderbird configuration

Whilst I can't believe this question is original...
I'd like to read (and possibly delete) stuff from my mailboxes (using IMAP).
I can easily emails from username@plus.com
In Squirrelmail if I want to access a different mailbox, I'd input "username+mailboxname"
How do I do this in Thunderbird?

Re: Thunderbird configuration

choose new account e-mail
enter name
choose IMAP
enter servers for service you want to connect to
fill in rest of details
Once connected it should show all the folders, if not right click and choose subscribe.
That should be it, it all I have done for years using Thunderbird Wink

Re: Thunderbird configuration

Thanks - but I don't think that will work.  Sad
My username has a mailbox with an inbox and barious other folders and sub-folders
Each of 5 other mailboxes has the same structure.
There is no communication between two different mailboxes.
Plusnet only really know about the username (signin) mailbox that everyone gets.
I'm referring to extra user created mailboxes.

Re: Thunderbird configuration

In Thunderbird you could add each mailbox as a separate account.
By default, each will have a separate Inbox.

How do I specify the mailbox name in each account?

Re: Thunderbird configuration

Never used the +net mail system so this maybe tosh  Cheesy (I run my own mail system and have for years, makes it easier to move provider/email accounts)
But if you can log in with username1@plusnet.com  then you should be able to add the additional mailboxes as additional accounts in Thunderbird.
I can see no reason why this shouldn't work unless the +net email system is weird Shocked
Or is the mailbox you are talking about a (sub)folder of your inbox ? In that case the IMAP will just read it

Re: Thunderbird configuration

On Thunderbird go to <Tools>, highlight your account name,  then click at bottom of drop down menu <Add Account>.  It should then look for all the accounts you've identified whenever you collect mail.

Re: Thunderbird configuration

The problem is creating the account in the first place.
If I setup one account I can read from the default mailbox (called username) and all it's sub-folders.
Each mailbox is independent of all the others (inbox, folders, sub-folders, drafts, outbox etc)
However, one mailbox is set up as standard with the same name as the username
To access my mailboxes I have to supply security info which is my username and password - and  I've only got one of these Smiley
So I can get to the main mailbox, but not the extra ones.
Thanks for your help though. Smiley

It's very similar to squirrel mail...
...put "username+mailbox" in the Thunderbird "User Name" box for each account that you add.

Re: Thunderbird configuration

I've decided that IMAP is different to POP3 Smiley
It won't work and I give up.
BTW I do run a getmail script with about 6 lines in it and it gets and deletes the contents of an entire mailbox as one file per email.
I thought Thunderbird could do something just as simple - but it seems not. Angry

Re: Thunderbird configuration

I can absolutely guarantee it does work! I have 10 mailboxes set up in Thunderbird using IMAP.

Re: Thunderbird configuration

Mr Evil
I can't believe you can't figure it out. I even wondered where you were going with this and expected you to have a dig at PN webmail versus TB
I  run Imap in TB and I believe I can do the things you want to do.
The advice given already explains how to set up Imap for each "account"
If you have aliases linked to accounts that mail is accessible through the account imap inbox.

Re: Thunderbird configuration

Works fine here, using username+mailbox as the username

Re: Thunderbird configuration

Well Tbird says that username+mailboxname fails to log-in to the server (on IMAP)
It does seem acceptable on POP3 - but I'd rather not use POP3.
I don't use mail agents much and Thunderbird seems pretty good.

I wasn't having a dig at PN webmail (I use it 95% of the time) - it performs brilliantly - I just put in username+mailboxname Smiley
I appreciate that I'd received bucketloads of advice and failing someone firing off loads of screenshots, I'm just not going to "get it".
Sorry - but I can be really dense sometimes. Lips_are_sealed
I give up - it isn't worth the time and effort - I can find a workround.

Re: Thunderbird configuration

Have you by any chance specified the server name as mail.plus.net?
