Thumbnail cache in Windows 7

Anyone know how to disable it to avoid creating thousands of thumbnail files?

If you change the folder default view to details or list I believe that does it.
You can do it on a per folder basis but then you would need to delete the thumb.db file afterwards as I believe the Windows default is to use thumbnails whenever the folder contains pictures
