Re: Thompson Gateway Router Tg585 V7

I have no idea what is causing the problem but you could just hard code one in as yours is the only computer using the router

Re: Thompson Gateway Router Tg585 V7

http://www.home-network-help.com/set-ip.html
if you follow this it tells you how to make the IP address fixed so it doesn't need the router to assign it
I think the correct format for the 585v7 is 192.168.1.* where * can be any number between 1 and 253 - try using 1
You can check the current setting by opening a DOS prompt and typing "ipconfig /all" without the quotation marks and noting the gap between ipconfig and / this will show something like this and the bits you want is the IP address and subnet mask

Re: Thompson Gateway Router Tg585 V7

This will require someone with more knowledge than me (many on this forum  Embarrassed ) as the IP address of 192.168.1.64 is most odd as the router normally starts at the bottom and works up.
If you go into the router and click on Home Network and then on Devices it might show all the connected devices with their IP Addresses

Re: Thompson Gateway Router Tg585 V7

Hi,you can get into your router by typing 192.168.1.254 in your browser address bar, then you will be prompted by the thompson gateway for your username and password.if its default its  username: Admin...password: blank....or if you have set your own username and password use that to get in.
Just read this thread and im aware computeryydidgeryydooing is not your strong point, try clicking  this link and enter username and password....http://192.168.1.254/

Re: Thompson Gateway Router Tg585 V7

HI I have a problem, when I went into the router by typing 192.168.1.254 I was asked for my user name and password which was not accepted,I copy and paste each question down and print it out, I dropped my paper on the floor, and it went under the computer desk, were I found a small piece of paper which must have dropped out of my replacement  router box, with another user name and router password, what do I do now, as I am using user name and password from the original which was thought to be faulty?Huh

Re: Thompson Gateway Router Tg585 V7

The bit of paper from the box is probably the security codes for the wireless connection. It is rather confusing because you have
1. the security codes
2. the username and password to get into the router and
3. your username and password with Plusnet to access the internet.
The one that steve is talking about is to get you into the router's interface.
As steve says,  type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar then the username is Administrator and the password is what you put in when you set it up.
Now, if you didn't put a password in and are using the default one, here is the info from the PN site:
Quote
Next choose a Username and Password, this is to secure your Thomson Gateway.
You should choose something that's easy to remember as you'll need these details to check or change your router settings in the future. If you don't make any changes then the Username will be Administrator and the Password will be the Serial Number on the bottom of your Thomson Gateway (See What are the router username & password? for more on this).

However, do not be concerned if you can't get into the interface of the router as it is quite easy to reset it. Someone will talk you through that if needs be.
It's a strange problem and would like to know if it can be sorted and what is wrong.

Raysalaugh - your problem has piqued my interest and I wondered if you have solved it yet? I do hope so, and if you have, please could you let us know how/why it occurred in the first place?
