Techinicolor TG582n & Vista

I have recently upgraded to Plusnet fibre but when I set up the TG582n router I could only get a local connection (no internet). Plusnet sent me out another TG582n but the same problem occurs. The connection seems fine when connected via an ethernet cable. Has anybody else had this problem and can help because Plusnet don't seem to have an answer.

Re: Techinicolor TG582n & Vista

Moved to Windows board as this isn't really a router problem

Re: Techinicolor TG582n & Vista

@Oldjim
At the moment, I do not believe that the OP has provided enough information to determine what the problem is yet.

@Danstagg
Welcome to the forums.
Can you please provide a little more information about the problem?  Your brief description suggests that if you connect your computer to the router by an Ethernet cable, you can connect to the Internet, but if you try to connect via WiFi you cannot connect to the Internet.  Is that correct or have I misunderstood?
If you connect via WIFi can you access the router admin screens on 192.168.1.254?  If not it might suggest the you are not being allocated an IP address over WiFI, in which case can you post the ipconfig output here please?

Can you install inSSIDer and see what your wireless card gets http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

Re: Techinicolor TG582n & Vista

So ping 192.168.1.254 gets a timeout response?  You have probably installed some clever software firewall that is keeping you safe by preventing you from using your wireless connection.

@reedrichards
I currently have Kaspersky as my anti virus but other than that I haven't installed anything else
@oldjim
I am currently trying to upload an image of inSSIDer but the insert image button doesn't seem to be working

Re: Techinicolor TG582n & Vista

It takes ages - you have to be patient and if you get sick of waiting click on refresh in your browser - this usually fixes it

Re: Techinicolor TG582n & Vista

If you open Kaspersky (I assume that you have the internet security package not just the anti virus)
Click on settings - top right
Then on firewall
You should get something like this picture - do you have an internet reported  (I don't have wireless)

@Danstagg
Save the image to your desktop, then use the advanced features below the post text box to attach the image.
Try doing a tracert to Googles DNS servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4
@RR
Given Danstagg can get the router admin page up, is it unlikely that a fire wall specific to WiFi is the problem?  If my memory is correct, by default these routers do not respond to pings.

Don't bother with the picture - is your router reported and with a good signal strength

signal strength is showing as excellent and in Kaspersky Plusnet is shown as a trusted network
