TP-LINK Archer VR900 AC modem /router...any comments?

I'm seriously contemplating replacing my Asus router/ BT modem with the above TP-LINK modem/ router. The reviews look very positive & I'm interested in any comments from any PN customers who are using one. Please don't confuse with me with comments about alternative modem/ routers. Undecided
Many thanks in advance,
Nick

Have you seen this review?

I have now, very many thanks for the heads up! That is an incredibly useful review. Smiley
It looks ideal to me, particuarly the stability & excellent wifi. The rest of the stuff about line stats & interfaces is lost on me & therefore of no significance. I'm pretty sure that I'll go ahead & buy one.

have you read post 2 in this thread

That is totally at variance with Kitz's review so I'll disregard it. Thanks for taking the time to send the info.

Re: TP-LINK Archer VR900 AC modem /router...any comments?

the link i posted is based on real life usability though.
kitz is just a standard review of the hardware.
you'd be foolish the disregard anything without further investigation.
you have 1 review saying it's OK, and 1 review saying there has been problems.
that's not enough to base any judgement either way.

Kitz's review was based on 2 weeks solid connection. I have also read other excellent reviews on several other forums. Every router causes problems for someone, often due to operator error. Thanks anyway for your concern Chenks, I'll report back once I have it up & running.

This was one of the other threads on the VR900: https://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,144557.0.html
TP-Link is a fairly low cost brand, the stuff ought to work basically OK, but you probably shouldn't expect too much of it.

More than two thirds of the 274 reviews at http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-Archer-VR900-Beamforming-Technology/dp/B01132GCP0 rate it 4 or 5 stars!

the 26 1 star reviews is what i would read first, to see the reasons why they give it 1 star.
that's always a good basis to start from.
lots of reported sync and stability issues.

Re: TP-LINK Archer VR900 AC modem /router...any comments?

well the OP did ask for comments.
specifically asking for comments from plusnet users who had used one - i linked to one and the OP chose to disregard it instantly.

My decision is now on hold because in January Billion are releasing the new 8900AX-1600. The spec. looks amazing, priced around £170.00

Re: TP-LINK Archer VR900 AC modem /router...any comments?

it was slightly odd that they withdrew the 8800axl so quickly after introducing it to the market, I rather suspect they found a fatal flaw in part of the hardware /software of it that they cant fix because it ceased production rather rapidly yet the older 8800nl is still around .....lets hope they don't have the same problem with the 8900 in the new year, or if they do they send out a free replacement to everyone that made a complaint as soon as the replacement system is available
but I rather doubt that will happen /
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
