I have used it a couple of times, but a lot of places recognise that you are coming from a public proxy/tor exit and will not let you connect to them. Overall I don't use it, just installed it to play with it.

I sometimes run a TOR relay - because of the vast bandwidth.
I haven't any knowledge what kind of traffic is forwarded by my PC,
but I hope some of it is from the population of some repressive regime.
Doesn't cause me any bother.
If people block it, then they are simply blocking secure communications.
I don't use it to access anywhere (hiding my identity) because its necessary to be very careful to do so in a 100% secure manner.
In particular, I would need to use the TOR browser, instead of FireFox etc...

How do I change the following to give me permission,
This is a Linux permissions issue which vidalia saved in the logs:
May 25 19:55:21.087 [Warning] /var/run/tor is not owned by this user (gleneagles,
1000) but by debian-tor (117).
Attempts to change it using sudo just give messages about not having permission to change it ?
I Have checked similar posts on the net where users have got this message but the solutions suggested don't seem to resolve the problem

I would check to see if there is a Group called TOR and if so add yourself to this and log off/on to test it.
I just used the TOR browser package, which gave me a desktop icon to run FF in TOR mode in.

Installed it using Software Manager, got the desktop icon and all the tabs worked ok but it refused to connect giving the error messages shown previously.
Tried it again today but this time got the additional message that it was out of date so installed from their website and everything appears to be working ok.
I assume that programs accessed by the Software manager are not always up to date.
Thanks for the feedback.
