TG585 v7 - Wired connection works but not wireless even though it's connected

XP Pro on Dell Latitude D610
Zonealarm has been shutdown and windows firewall is off
AVG Anti Virus
Wireless Network connection is connected to PlusNetWireless and the signal strength is maximum

I took delivery of this PlusNet TG585  router today.  When connected via the Ethernet cable (LAN) all works fine.   However, when the LAN cable is disconnected I cannot access the web even though the wireless network connection shows that I'm connected.
If I connect to the router (with the LAN cable disconnected) via http://192.168.1.254 and then pick the task "Check connectivity to the internet"  and then click on "Check Connectivity" all the  tests pass.  So in other words this is not a login/password issue.  There is no firewall like zonealarm blocking the connection so any ideas folks?
The error I get is:
This web page is not available.
The web page at null might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

More information on this error

And on clicking on "More Information" I get:
Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found.
I get this on both chrome and IE.   Any ideas on what the issue could be?

Re: TG585 v7 - Wired connection works but not wireless even though it's connected

It looks as though you've got problems with DNS servers.
Could you try the following on your laptop:
Go to Start>Run and then type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the box.
In the black box that appears type "ipconfig/all" (again without the quotes).
Look down the list until you find your wireless adapter and then post back what it says under that (particularly for DNS servers).

Re: TG585 v7 - Wired connection works but not wireless even though it's connected

cant be DNS if he connects via ethernet.
Have you applied the WPA password?  the TG585 comes with it pre applied, you will find the password printed on the base of the router, it must be entered in Capitals
second thoughts, you must have used the WPA if you typed in 192.168.1.254, strange
this is a Wifi on mine

Re: TG585 v7 - Wired connection works but not wireless even though it's connected

It's not a password issue as they can get to the browser interface on the router.
You can set DNS by network adapter so it is worth a look.

Those DNS settings don't look right at all try changing them to
212.159.13.49
208.67.222.222
which is one PN and one OpenDNS (for resilience)

Hi Piere,
When connecting to the "PlusnetWireless" network I was prompted for a password and I entered the WPA PSK key shown in the bottom of the router.  When I clicked connect it connected OK .  When I view "Wireless networks" I can see that I have connected to the network.
With a wired connection Zonealarm is running and all works OK.  With the LAN cable off I've tried shutting down Zonealarm but no joy.

Re: TG585 v7 - Wired connection works but not wireless even though it's connected

Your DNS servers look wrong (as adiewoo has said).
You've also got DHCP disabled - are you intentionally setting the IP address manually?
Go to Control Panel>Network Connection and right click on your wireless connection.  Select properties.
In the dialog that appears select the "general" tab (it should be selected by default) and highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the box.  Under the box where you highlighted Internet Protocol click on properties.
Make sure that it's set to "Obtain an IP address Automatically" (unless you've intenionally manually set the address) and, if the DNS server is set to "Use the following DNS server addresses" then set it to obtain them automatically OR enter the numbers adiewoo gave you above.  Then click "OK" all the way back up and see how you get on.
For reference PlusNet's DNS servers are 212.159.13.49 and 212 159.13.50

Yes it can!!!!
You can manually set different DNS servers for each connection using the process in my post above.
The OP has his ethernet connection to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS (via DHCP) and it has correctly been assigned an IP address and the router's IP as a DNS proxy.  His wireless connection has a manually assigned IP address (no DHCP) and the DNS manually set to something other than PN's DNS.  The default gateway has also been manually assigned to the wrong IP address (should be the same as the router's IP).
The OP needs to set the wireless TCP/IP settings to obtain DNS and IP addresses automatically - as I outlined above.

Thanks Paul you were spot on.  The IP was NOT set to "Obtain an IP address automatically".  Once I selected this and repaired the wireless connection all was OK.  Zonealram is also up and running.  Thanks adiewoo.
I'm more of a UNIX/Solaris, SYBASE, MQ, C++ chap and windows is a bit alien to me!  Thanks once again guys.

This router also works with my SONOS ZP80 and controller just in case anyone needs to know.  Not all routers work with sonos.    In "Home Network" I can see the d610, the two sonos devices and the NAS connected and all works kosher.
Previously I had a zoom router which lasted all of 10 months.  They wanted me to send it back at my cost for repairs!
