My router is a TG 582n. I am wishing to upgrade my pc and the one I am looking at supports 802.11a/c wireless networking. Is this compatible with my router or do I need one that supports 802.11b/g/n. Maybe not relevant but I use ADSL and not fibre. Thank-you in advance for any help.

Hi,
The computer that you're looking will be able to connect to the TG582n. The PC just has a new feature where it can connect to the newest wireless technology called AC wireless. The Plusnet Hub One (one of the routers) broadcasts AC wireless and certain devices can take advantage of this.
Hope this helps

Hi NE
Thank-you for your speedy reply. However, I am still a bit confused. You mention the Plusnet Hub One router whereas I have a Technicolor TG582n router. I believe the TG582n is a 2.4 ghz 802.11b/g/n router. I also read somewhere that the 802.11 a/c standard broadcasts at 5 ghz. That's why I thought they would be incompatible. Maybe not relevant but I am ADSL and not fibre. Mind you my knowledge in this field is pretty limited. Thanks.

You're right the TG582n only broadcasts 2.4Ghz and this is supported by all devices which use WiFi.
5Ghz (A/C) WiFi is broadcasted by some higher end routers (Plusnet hub one is an example). To take advantage of this wireless you would need a device which can connect to it. Your computer could connect to it, if you wished to do so.
Hope that clears things up

Hi NE
Again, thank-you for your reply.
So, just to confirm that I understand what you are saying my TG582n router, although it is a 802.11b/g/n and broadcasts at 2.4Ghz, it will be able to communicate with a device which is 802.11a/c and broadcasts at 5Ghz.
You can tell I am new to this.
Thanks

Your new PC will be backward compatible, so if you ever change your router it will be able to use the 5gHz channels, but it will also be able to connect to the 2.4Ghz channels, so it won't be a problem.
