TCP Packet

Looked at the log for my Netgear DG834G v3 today and saw the entries below. I have no idea what a TCP Packet is; can anyone let me know what has happened and if it is harmful
Mon, 2010-02-22 17:35:16 - TCP Packet - Source:202.173.191.92,1579 Destination:87.114.83.173,5910 - [DOS]
Mon, 2010-02-22 17:35:19 - TCP Packet - Source:202.173.191.92,1559 Destination:87.114.83.173,5906 - [DOS]

Re: TCP Packet

TCP packets is how the internet works. It is the TCP/IP protocols that allow data to be sent between all the computers on the internet.
As for your issue, this is nothing to worry about. DOS in this case means Denial Of Service, a method some hackers use to disrupt peoples internet connection by sending many 1000s of packets to one destination so it stops you being able to using the connection. However, the netgear is actually falsely reporting normal packets of data as being a DOS. There is nothing to worry about and it can be safely ignored. In fact the netgear has an option to not report DOS and I suggest you just untick it.
If you want to find out more about TCP and IP just look for TCPIP on google.
