I have a HP desktop, on the bench
The problem is the Stock, Ethernet card, overheats on heavy usage, then causes the PC to reboot
I have seen Ethernet cards fail, & not work or will work intermittently on many occasions,
IIRC one of them was a Dell, can not remember the other
Yet I have only come across the overheating issue approx 3 x in my lifetime
Have you ever come across this or similar ?

Never come across an ethernet card overheating and causing it to reboot. wireless cards on the other hand I've seen get hot.
sounds like the ethernet card is on its way out.

I haven't but I would ask a question or two
Is the ethernet card PCI, ISA or PCMCIA and are you sure it is the card overheating rather than something on the motherboard as there isn't normally a monitored temperature sensor on an ethernet card

@OJ
It is PCI
& Yes the actual card gets hotter than the rest of the components
After replacing it with a new card, there are no more reboots
As I said (this is quite rare in this neck of the woods)

How very odd as you say
I have had ethernet chips go down before but not showing that sort of effect - as you are a professional in this area and I am not - so if it is rare for you the chances of a normal user hitting it must be rather remote

That is why I asked, to see if others have ever come across it, to try & get a picture of how rare it is.
What I noticed
Up to the point the PC reboots, there is no degradation, in connectivity whilst they were surfing the net, playing online games etc, that was noticeable on their VM connection

I had a machine where the Atheros driver for the Wi-FI card would sometimes cause a BSOD under heavy load but I don't think I've ever had one where overheating of the Ethernet card was a problem.
Closet I had to that was years ago I had a win98 machine that after being up for a few hours would sometimes lose the NIC completely.
